Self-Caught Flight

Self-Caught Flight combines Maximum Time Aloft and Throw Run Catch, challenging players to throw, chase, and catch their own disc for maximum flight time and distance.

How to Play

Self-Caught Flight (SCF) is an individual flying disc event that combines two disciplines: Maximum Time Aloft (MTA) and Throw Run Catch (TRC). In both events, the player throws the disc and then attempts to catch it with one hand before it touches the ground.

In MTA, the goal is to keep the disc airborne for as long as possible. In TRC, the goal is to create the greatest possible distance between the throwing circle and the catch.

Players commonly use a high, curving or boomerang-style flight that gives them time to track the disc and move into position. Success requires throwing control, speed, agility, wind awareness, flight reading and confident one-handed catching.

MTA and TRC may be played separately or combined into a single SCF score. Self-Caught Flight is also contested as part of flying disc Overall competition.
